Microneedling & PRP

PRP microneedling is sometimes referred to as a "vampire facial" because your own blood is used during treatment. This might sound scary, but it is a minimally invasive treatment that has proven safe for many people. PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is your body’s source of healing and growth factors, naturally found in the blood. The growth factors, stem cells, and other beneficial proteins in PRP can be used to stimulate collagen and elastin production for skin rejuvenation through platelet rich plasma injections or platelet rich plasma therapy.

Collagen and elastin are two of the main proteins in the skin that give it structure and elasticity for a healthy, youthful tone. As we age, collagen production slows down and the skin starts to sag and wrinkle. Microneedling uses fine needles to stimulate collagen production and when combined with PRP injections or topical therapy, you can expect amazing facial rejuvenation! The turnover of new, healthy cells and new collagen replaces dead skin cells on the surface of the skin to improve skin tone, acne scarring, and many other skin conditions.

Your PRP Microneedling Treatment

The PRP microneedling treatment is a two-step procedure. First, you will have your blood drawn in our office and placed in a centrifuge to separate the plasma from the red blood cells. Next, the harvested PRP is drawn into syringes for PRP injection in the treatment area or is applied topically. Once the PRP is applied to the skin, your treatment concludes with microneedling to trigger the body’s natural healing response and deliver PRP deeper into the dermal layers of the skin. Topical numbing cream can be applied at the start of your cosmetic procedure to keep you comfortable.

Who Can Benefit from PRP Microneedling?

Almost all men and women in overall good health can benefit from microneedling with PRP. Patients with acne scars or other types of scars are especially benefited from this form of microneedling. Your provider will work with you on an individual basis to determine the best course of treatment for your skin needs and cosmetic goals.

Results and Recovery

There is minimal downtime required after PRP treatment, but you can expect a few side effects as your skin heals. For the first 3-5 days, your skin will become red and flake, but this can be covered up with makeup if you choose. Over the next 6 months, collagen and elastin will be regenerated and the new healthy skin cells will give you a more vibrant complexion and smooth skin texture. For optimal results we recommend 4-6 microneedling treatments scheduled about one month apart.
