What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a noninvasive, nonsurgical treatment where dead skin cells and peach fuzz are scraped away with a scalpel. During treatment, the scalpel is gently glided across the skin to exfoliate away dead skin cells and remove hair, making your skin look smoother, brighter, and younger-looking. 

At MedSkinEssentials, we combine dermaplaning with a peel. It all starts with cleansing your skin. From there, we’ll perform the dermaplane treatment and apply a customized chemical peel to the skin to continue the exfoliation process. We’ll then perform some light extraction and hydrate and protect the skin with sunscreen.

What Happens During Dermaplaning?

Your treatment starts by cleansing your skin and getting rid of all oil, makeup, dirt, and debris. Then, your skincare provider will gently scrape your skin’s surface using a specialized scalpel tool. This process will exfoliate dead skin cells and remove fine facial hairs, uncovering a healthy layer of skin underneath. This immediately creates a more radiant complexion, as well as better-looking makeup because of hair removal. Once complete, we can perform a chemical peel or you can go about the rest of your day with moisturizer and sun protection from our physician-grade skincare products.

Recovery and Results

Most people have little to no side effects after dermaplaning. You should be able to go back to your normal routine and usual skincare regimen immediately unless advised by your provider. Some possible side effects include soreness, redness, and swelling, but those should subside on their own after a day or two. You’ll immediately notice improvement, with healthier skin and noticeable smoothness. Your results can last for 2-3 weeks, at which point we recommend returning for your next treatment.
