Dysport
Dysport received FDA approval to treat glabellar lines, also known as frown lines, but its botulinum toxin, type A formula also makes it an effective treatment for wrinkles in other areas of the face. It has the same active ingredient as Botox injections but a thinner consistency, allowing it to spread more. This makes it a great choice for large areas like the forehead. The botulinum toxin in Dysport temporarily blocks nerve signals to overactive facial muscles. This prevents muscle contractions and the resulting formation of fine lines and wrinkles.
Your Dysport Treatment
Dysport is a quick, minimally invasive treatment. Most patients find it to be a relatively comfortable treatment, but we can provide a topical numbing cream if desired. Your injector will administer the Dysport with a fine gauge needle at a few different points in the treatment area. The entire procedure only takes about 30 minutes.
Who Can Benefit from Dysport?
Men and women in overall good health who want to smooth glabellar lines or other fine lines like crow’s feet and forehead lines can benefit from Dysport injections. Dysport is great for both preventing and treating wrinkles.
Before receiving any botulinum toxin product, you should not have an allergy to botulinum or be taking blood thinners. If you are currently pregnant or breastfeeding or have an active skin injection, we will advise you to wait to receive treatment. You will be asked about your medical history in more detail at your consultation to determine whether you are a candidate.
Results and Recovery
There is virtually no downtime and recovery after Dysport treatments. The main side effects are mild redness, swelling, and injection site bruising but this will improve within a few days. To prevent the Dysport formula from shifting, please refrain from strenuous activity and exercise for 24 hours. You should also be careful when washing your face so that you do not put pressure on the treatment site.
You will start to see improvements in the appearance of your fine lines and wrinkles within 2-3 days, but it can take up to two weeks for the complete results to develop. These results will last an average of 3-5 months and can be maintained with additional treatments.
